The Superlux S125 is 1/2" diaphragm cardioid externally polarized condenser mic with a triple pop filter for studio sound but at a fraction of the price. Like the Neumann KMS104, the multistage pop filter does not use any foam components so it will maintain its excellent sound for years. The capsule is shockmounted for low handling noise, and the case and grille are conductive to resist RF interference from cell phones and other sources. The S125 has a switchable 10 dB attenuator and a switchable low cut filter. Both switches are under a rubber cover to protect them from moisture and accidental change. The maximum level is 148 dB SPL and the noise floor is only 18 dB SPL A weighted for an amazing 130 dB dynamic range. Superlux PRA-238A |
The Superlux PRA-238A is a deluxe version of the discontinued PRA-238B. It adds a shockmounted capsule and a switchable low cut filter to the features of the PRA-238B. This mic has never been officially imported to the USA, but a small number wound up here by accident. I have purchased the remaining inventory in the USA and even though this was a more expensive model I am able to offer it at the same price as the PRA-238B. Superlux FH-12, FH-12S, & FI-10 |
The Superlux FH-12, FH-12S, & FI-10 are their new Sonata Series dynamic vocal and instrument mics with good gain before feedback and a very reasonable price. They utilize modern manufacturing techniques and very rugged modular construction. They have more extended high frequency response than many more common dynamic mics. The FI-10 is the closest in sound of any dynamic mic in my collection to the sort of crisp "condenser mic sound" you would get from the PRA-238B above. The FH-12 and FH-12S split the difference in sound between the FI-10 and the more traditional dynamic vocal mic sound such as you would get from the PRO-248 below. Since these are dynamic microphones they do not require phantom power. This makes them ideal if your mixer does not supply phantom power. The microphone element is protected inside a massive steel ring with a hardened steel outer grille. This assembly screws into the die cast zinc alloy body and connects with sliding Gold contacts (no wires to break). If you are looking for a mic with a more modern sound, excellent performance, rugged construction, and good handling, you have found what you are looking for. The Superlux PRO-248 is a traditional ball head dynamic vocal mic with good gain before feedback and a very reasonable price. Since it is a dynamic microphone it does not require phantom power. This makes it ideal if your mixer does not supply phantom power. It has the traditional sound of the better competitive ball head dynamic vocal mics such as the Shure Beta58.
The PRO-248 has a rubber ring around the head to help absorb bangs, and a rubber ring around the upper portion of the body which makes it very nice to handle. If you are looking for a mic with the traditional vocal sound such as you would expect to get from a Shure Beta58 but at a more reasonable price, you have found what you are looking for.

The response of this mic is flatter and more neutral than that of the CM-H8 series, and in fact is fairly close to that of the Shure KSM-32 but in a handheld package. Improvements over the original PRO-238 include a stronger mount for the capsule, improved shockmounting for less handling noise, a nicer to handhold case, a foamless internal windscreen system for clearest sound, and a more neutral color. Each mic comes with an external windscreen, stand adapter, and zipper carrying bag for $179.00 plus shipping.
