Superlux S241/U3

The Superlux S241/U3 is a deluxe interchangeable capsule small diaphragm externally polarized condenser mic. It is similar in this regard to the Schoeps Colette series and the original AKG C451E series. The current AKG C451B was made without interchangable capsules and has an electret capsule as a cost saving measure. The S241/U3 comes with a cardioid capsule, and other capsules are not yet available. It has a switchable attenuator with 0, -10, and -20 dB settings to allow use in extreme level applications up to 143 dB SPL. There is a switchable low cut filter with flat, 75 Hz and 150 Hz settings to allow rejection of room rumble and unwanted low frequency pickup. It comes with a foam windscreen for outdoor or handheld vocal applications, and a micro-perf metal pop filter for studio vocal applications. Superlux CM-H8K series

The Superlux CM-H8K series is an interchangeable capsule small diaphragm condenser mic. It is similar in this regard to the Schoeps Colette series and the original AKG C451E series. The current AKG C451B was made without interchangable capsules as a cost saving measure. I have rarely seen this much microphone for this little money. Click here for the manufacturer's data sheet. Here is a set of curves on one of these mics in Cardioid. This microphone is available in Cardioid, Hypercardioid (SOLD OUT), and Omni versions, and in a kit with all three capsules.

The CM-H8K/U/H/O is a set with one preamp but all three capsules, Cardioid, Hypercardioid, and Omni. Replacement shockmounts are now available for the CM-H8K series of mics. These also fit the PRA-268A, PRA-118S, PRA-118L, and PRO-268A. Both the HM-32 shockmounts that come with the mics, and the optional HM-30 shockmounts shown on the CM-H8K datasheet above are available. The HM-32 provides greater shock isolation and adjustable length, but the rubber suspension elements have a limited life. The HM-30 uses a rubber sleeve instead of the rubber bands and should have significantly longer life, but does not provide as much shock isolation. It is also lower profile than the HM-32. Replacement HM-32 are now shipping in a slightly updated but compatible with the original design version that uses only one longer suspension element per end, instead of two in the original design. The HM-32 costs $16.00 and the HM-30 costs $9.00 each plus shipping. The HM-32 comes with 2 new style spare rubber suspension elements. Additional sets of 8 original style suspension elements (two shockmounts worth, work with either the new or older HM-32 versions) are $7.25 plus $1.50 shipping. Shockmount shipping in the 48 states is $6.00 for one shockmount and an extra $2.50 for each additional shockmount on the same order.
