General Radio (GenRad) 1983

The GenRad 1983 is an American made Type 2 Survey Sound Level Meter. I have never seen one of these meters in better condition. This sample is in very close to new condition (there are a few extremely small chips in the paint, and some faint marks on the microphone from a calibrator), and is calibrated. It comes with both a hard case and a like new soft case. It comes with a copy of the GenRad manual with full service information.

The GenRad 1983 has a 50 dB scale on its meter. I find this to be extremely handy since it eliminates the need for range switching. The meter covers 70 to 120 dB in a single range. The meter reads "A" weighted sound level with Fast response time or I can set it for you to Slow response time as required for OSHA measurements. The OSHA exposure limits are marked on the face of the instrument. An internal jumper can be changed to select slow response time. There is a DC output which follows the meter reading.

The meter runs on a standard 9 volt battery (supplied), and has a locking on/off switch. The meter can be mounted on any tripod with a standard 1/4-20 threaded mounting stud, such as most photographic tripods. A wrist strap is supplied which screws into the tripod socket for secure portable use.

The Type 2 - 1/2" microphone is mounted directly to the meter. General Radio 1/2" measurement microphones are exactly 1/2" diameter and fit all General Radio 1/2" calibrators.

This American made GenRad 1983 meter costs $250.00 plus $15.00 ground shipping in the 48 States.

General Radio (GenRad) 1565B

The GenRad 1565B is an American made Type 2 Survey Sound Level Meter. I have rarely seen one of these meters in better condition. This sample is in very good condition, and is calibrated. It comes with a hard case. It is supplied with the original factory calibration curve serial number matched to the microphone, and to the serial number of this instrument. This is extremely rare. It comes with a copy of the GenRad manual with full service information.

The GenRad 1565B covers 45 to 140 dB SPL in 9 ranges. The meter reads "A", "B", or "C" weighted sound level with either Fast or Slow response time. There is an AC output which is the weighted output of the microphone. The AC output is ideal for driving external analysers or recorders from the the meter.

The meter runs on two standard 9 volt batteries (supplied). The meter can be mounted on any tripod with a standard 1/4-20 threaded mounting stud, such as most photographic tripods. A lanyard is supplied which screws into the tripod socket for secure portable use.

The Type 2 - 1" microphone is mounted directly to the meter. With the appropriate adaptor and pickup (NOT supplied), the 1565B can be used as a vibration meter. The microphone may be removed from the meter and remotely mounted using an extension cord and adaptors (NOT supplied) inserted between the microphone and the meter. General Radio 1" measurement microphones are the IEC Standard size of about 15/16" diameter and fit all General Radio 1" calibrators and most other 1" calibrators on the market.

This American made GenRad 1565B meter costs $200.00 plus $15.00 ground shipping in the 48 States.

Similar American made GenRad 1565B meters in good used condition, calibrated, with the hard case, and manual are available for $170.00 plus $15.00 ground shipping in the 48 States.

A like new soft case to fit these meters is available for $20.00 plus $5.00 ground shipping in the 48 states.
